Dear all,
My name is Jozef Krajčo, I am 44 years old and I am an oncology patient with two oncological diagnoses – thyroid cancer and a brain tumor. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2014 (a few months before our daughter was born) and a brain tumor in 2017 (when our daughter was 2.5 years old). I underwent thyroid surgery and then three times of radioiodine treatment. I also underwent a surgery for the brain tumor. Then I was under observation for five years, but due to the slow progression of the tumor, I underwent chemotherapy treatment in the period 2022–2023. After that I was under observation again for two years.
Further treatment options are limited
Due to the further progression of the brain tumor, I underwent a consultation at the University Hospital in Heidelberg (Germany) in May 2025, where I was recommended a new treatment with IDH1 inhibitors (which should slow down the progression of the disease and buy time). Subsequently, my oncologist asked the health insurance company to reimburse the medicine Tibsovo, but the insurance company refused to reimburse the medicine.
Since I had previously undergone radioiodine treatment and chemotherapy, my bone marrow was damaged with permanently reduced white blood cell and platelet counts, so further chemotherapy treatment is limited for me. The new treatment mentioned above seems to be more suitable and also gentler in terms of side effects.
How am I going to use the funds?
I would like to ask you to share this appeal and any financial assistance to reimburse the medicine Tibsovo, the price of which is 17 thousand Eur per month and the treatment is supposed to be long-term for me. For now, I have set this appeal for 3 months of treatment, which represents the amount of 51 thousand Eur, so that we can see the tolerance and effect of the treatment and then we will make further decisions together with my oncologist.
I sincerely thank you very much for any – really ANY – help.
Best regards
Jozef Krajčo
