Takmer tridsať rokov prichádzajú do Dolného Kubína tí najlepší mladí huslisti, violisti a violončelisti (dnes už) z celého sveta. Prichádzajú na Talenty pre Európu, jedno z najvýznamnejších podujatí pre mladých hudobníkov v strednej Európe. Tento rok sa ich do Dolného Kubína chystá až 111, 9 komorných zoskupení, cestujú z 11 krajín.

Prídu pre jedinú vec. Postaviť sa na pódium vedľa tých najlepších rovesníkov. To, čo tu zažívajú je neprenosné. Motivácia, skúsenosti, kontakty a úspechy na Talentoch pre Európu sú ich vstupenka do vyššieho hudobného sveta.

Volám sa Leonard Vajdulák, som riaditeľom súťaže. Organizujem ju od začiatku a úprimne je to jedna z vecí, na ktorú som v živote výnimočne hrdý.

Tento rok je pre nás však mimoriadne náročný. Ministerstvo školstva ukončilo dlhoročnú finančnú podporu súťaže. Bez prechodu, bez náhrady. A bez tejto podpory nevieme zabezpečiť kvalitný chod súťaže a to, čo potrebujú aj účastníci. V súťažiach, ako je táto, nechceme robiť kompromisy v kvalite, lebo práve podmienky sú to, prečo sa aj tento rok chystá na Oravu stovka mladých virtuózov z 11 krajín. Preto sa obraciam na vás, potrebujeme vašu pomoc. 

Súťaž, ktorú sprevádzajú výnimoční ľudia

Súťaž vznikla vďaka ľuďom, ktorých si hlboko vážim. Pri jej zrode stál Bohdán Warchal — vynikajúci husľový virtuóz a umelecký vedúci Slovenského komorného orchestra, ktorý bol prezidentom jury 4 roky. Dôležitú úlohu pri dramaturgickej koncepcii zohral aj Viliam Ján Gruska. Vďaka nim mala súťaž od začiatku jasnú víziu a vysokú umeleckú latku, a tú sa snažíme udržať dodnes.

Dnes porotu vedie husľový virtuóz Peter Michalica, ktorý je jej dlhoročným prezidentom pre kategórie huslí a violy. Kategóriu violončiel má na starosti Ján Bogdan, náš vlastný víťaz Grand Prix z roku 2009, dnes člen Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Keď ho vidím za stolom poroty, vždy si pomyslím, že to má zmysel.

Počas takmer troch desaťročí som videl, kam táto súťaž dokáže dostať mladého hudobníka. Václav Petr, víťaz z roku 2005, je dnes koncertným majstrom violončiel Českej filharmónie. Ján Bogdan, víťaz z roku 2009, hrá v Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Sebastian Kozub, víťaz z roku 2015, je členom The Julius Quartet.

Tohtoročná víťazka Emilia Anastasijević Čikoš zo Srbska je historicky najmladšou držiteľkou Grand Prix. Kde bude o desať rokov, neviem. Ale viem, že táto skúsenosť bude silnou súčasťou jej cesty.

Chcel by som, aby tu táto súťaž bola aj pre tých, ktorí prídu po nej.

Dlhodobo si zakladáme na objektívnom hodnotení výkonov, férovosti, profesionalite a vysokej umeleckej a organizačnej úrovni. Výkony hodnotí 15-členná medzinárodná porota zložená z renomovaných pedagógov a interpretov z rôznych krajín, čo zabezpečuje maximálnu objektivitu hodnotenia. Záleží nám na vysokej kvalite. Súťažiaci sú doprevádzaní na koncertnom krídle Steinway&Sons a majú k dispozícii rovnaké pianína aj na prípravu v mnohých skúšobniach. K dispozícii sú profesionálni korepetítori. Aby mali súťažiaci komfort na prípravu, nerušené vystúpenia aj oddych, súťaž prebieha v priestoroch Hotela Park v Dolnom Kubíne.

Kto za kampaňou stojí?

Volám sa Leonard Vajdulák a túto súťaž organizujem od jej začiatkov. Založil som Art AIR Center, moju firmu, ktorú som zakladal s cieľom systematicky rozvíjať kultúru na Orave. Okrem iného, každý rok organizujeme Talenty Pre Európu, klavírnu súťaž Piano Talents for Europe, medzinárodné majstrovské kurzy Schola Arvenzis, medzinárodná súťaž husliarov Violino Arvenzis a hudobný festival Kubínska hudobná jeseň.

Nie som na to sám, pomáha mi celá moja rodina, priatelia, známi a nadšenci klasickej hudby. Vďaka nim, každý rok vznikajú na Orave výnimočné veci.

The top young violinists, violists, and cellists—who are now from all over the world—have been visiting Dolný Kubín for almost thirty years. They attend „Talents for Europe,“ one of the most important gatherings for young musicians in Central Europe. Up to 108 artists and nine chamber ensembles from eleven different nations are visiting Dolný Kubín this year.

Their sole motivation is to perform on stage among the greatest of their peers. This is an irreplaceable experience for them. Their ticket to the upper echelons of the music industry is their drive, expertise, relationships, and accomplishments at Talents for Europe.

I'm Leonard Vajdulák, and I lead the competition.

Since the beginning, I have been in charge of its organization, and to be honest, it is one of my greatest accomplishments.  

But for us, this year is quite tough and demanding. Long-standing financial support for the competition has been discontinued by the Ministry of Education. Without warning, without compensation. Furthermore, without this assistance, we are unable to guarantee the competition's excellent operation or meet the needs of the competitors. We don't want to sacrifice quality in competitions like this one because it's because of these circumstances that a hundred young virtuosos from eleven different nations are returning to Orava this year. We need your assistance, which is why I am coming to you.

A competition created by outstanding individuals

I have a lot of appreciation for the people that made this competition possible. Its inception was greatly aided by Bohdan Warchal, an exceptional violin musician and creative director of the Slovak Chamber Orchestra who presided over the jury for four years. The artistic vision of the competition was also greatly influenced by Viliam Ján Gruska. Because of them, the competition had a distinct vision and strong artistic standards from the start, and we continue to work toward upholding those criteria.  

Peter Michalica, a violin virtuoso and longtime president of the violin and viola categories, is currently in charge of the jury. Ján Bogdan, our own 2009 Grand Prix winner and current member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, is in charge of the cello division. I always assume that everything makes sense when I see him at the jury table.  

I have witnessed the potential of this competition for a young musician over the course of over thirty years. The 2005 winner, Václav Petr, is currently the Czech Philharmonic's main cellist. The 2009 winner, Ján Bogdan, is a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The 2015 winner, Sebastian Kozub, is a member of The Julius Quartet.  

The youngest Grand Prix winner in history is Emilia Anastasijević Čikoš of Serbia, who won this year. In ten years, I have no idea where she will be. However, I am confident that this encounter will play a significant role in her journey.

This competition should be available to those that pursue her as well, in my opinion.  

How have we kept up our reputation and excellence over the years?

For a long time, we have taken great satisfaction in our ability to evaluate performances objectively, fairly, professionally, and with a high level of artistic and organizational standards. A 15-person international jury made up of well-known academics and performers from different nations assesses performances to ensure the highest level of neutrality. The entire competition is streamed live online to guarantee objectivity. You may see an archive of the last ten editions on YouTube.

We are dedicated to excellence. In addition to having access to the same pianos for practice in many rehearsal rooms, contestants perform on a Steinway & Sons concert grand piano. There are qualified accompanists available. The competition is held at the Hotel Park in Dolný Kubín to provide competitors with a suitable setting for training, uninterrupted performances, and relaxation.

We are a highly esteemed event because of these circumstances. Without you, we can't keep them going. Please help us put together the next event.   

Who is in charge of this campaign?

Since the competition's beginning, I, Leonard Vajdulák, have been in charge of its organization. With the intention of methodically advancing culture in the Orava region, I founded our company, Art AIR Center. We host a number of events each year, including the Kubín Music Autumn festival, the Schola Arvenzis international masterclasses, the Violino Arvenzis international violin competition, Talents for Europe, and the Piano Talents for Europe competition.

My entire family, friends, acquaintances, and lovers of classical music support me in this journey. Every year, amazing things take place in Orava because of them.
