Who are we?
The Ukrainian Children's Rugby Club in Bratislava is an initiative that was created at the beginning of 2022 (March the 16th ) after the full-scale war began in Ukraine.
It was founded by experienced rugby player and coach Dmytro Levichev (Kyiv club Aviator, Slovak club Slovan, Vienna club Celtic), who is a patriot of his country. Anticipating an influx of refugee children from Ukraine as a result of the invasion, he decided to organize free rugby trainings to give them the opportunity to make new friends, detach from traumatic events and adapt more easily in a new country, Slovakia.
Why rugby and our club?
– Rugby is a universal sport for different sex, age and body completion.
– We are open not only to Ukrainian children. Local kids also join the trainings regularly.
– We develop in children the principles of tolerance, acceptance, respect, strong will and fair play and friendship.
– The club is developing very quickly and dynamically.
– Children successfully integrate to the new social life, make friends, practice foreign languages.
– We take care about kids’ mental health.
Our club has already achieved significant success in Slovakia and also beyond its borders (Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Hungary). We intend to continue our mission of supporting this exceptional community and spread awareness about rugby in general.
Why do we need your help?
The Ukrainian Children's Rugby Club project is not only about sports. It's about how sport changes lives. Today there are more than 60 children of different ages in the club, Ukrainians, Slovaks, those who have been here for a long time, and those who were forced to flee from the war in Ukraine to friendly Bratislava.
“Thank you! You can’t even imagine how our life changed here! Our son finally started to talk more at home and laugh after the day we escaped to Bratislava…” – mom of one boy wrote this message one day.
For children sport has become not only a game, but also an important tool for adaptation and social integration.
One boy crying after his first participation in rugby tournament (the team took 2 nd place among 6 teams!). “Hey, why are you crying?” – “I’m crying because no one ever gave me a medal for anything…I will remember for all of my life the moment when he gave me the medal (*other boy from the team, team captain)…I’m crying because I’m happy!”
Our goal is to ensure children not only physical development, but also support, adaptation, social integration and renewal of faith in people and the world. When children were taken to rugby summer camp to Sicily, organized by our Italian friends they saw how many people, whole families were involved to make that happen in the best way. Lots of children were asking from time to time: “Why they are doing this for us?”.
You should know that your donations and support is a part of our mental talks with the children about human kindness, charity, cooperation, importance of support, friendship, tolerance etc. We prefer to think big! And we dream of creating a real rugby legend – a team that not only plays, but also wins in tournaments all over Europe, especially in Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary, where we have already started to gain popularity and
international friendship.
But without your support, this process will be much more difficult and longer. With your financial help, we will be able to provide places for trainings, participation in tournaments, necessary equipment and organization of training camps. We believe that together we can do a great thing and leave an indelible mark in the development and improvement of the lives of these children.
Don't wait – join our common incredible initiative and be part of this amazing journey!
What exactly will the money from this
campaign be used for?
Our priority is tournaments for which expenses will be at least €2,800.
There are several of them waiting for us, and thanks to your support we will be able to participate in them:

20–23. 06. 2024 Klagenfurt U12 + U18. Participation of one team without travel costs approx. 900 € - Another priority is the camp in Slovakia. The price of the camp for each child is approximately €210. With your help, we want to reduce the price for each refugee child
to €150 (total 1800€) - Furthermore, we plan to purchase equipment and equipment for 2024 (balls, training aids, impact shields – approx. 400€).
If we manage to get more money, we will use it to rent the premises. We still have the means to pay until November, so it is not a priority. But for the winter of 2023–2024, the cost will be approx 2700€.
Every contribution you make is a step towards a happier and brighter future for the children of the Ukrainian Children’s Rugby Club.
Thank you for your attention and possible support!
