English version below
Who I Am
My name is Anna, I am 23 years old and I am a first year master’s student of Marketing Communication at the Faculty of Mass Media Communication, University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Slovakia.
I grew up in Modra, a small town known for its craftsmanship, wine and cultural heritage. For me, however, it is mainly the place where I learned to value honest work, education and curiosity about the world. It was here that my desire to go further, explore new environments and learn beyond what is familiar and comfortable began.
Marketing communication has never been just about advertising for me. I am especially interested in how culture, society and environment shape the way people think, communicate and perceive brands and the world around them. That is why the opportunity to gain academic experience in Japan felt like a natural step in my academic and personal development.
Where This Story Began
During the summer, I participated in a summer program at Iwate University in Morioka, Japan. It was there that I first experienced what studying and research can look like in an environment that combines academic quality, respect for culture and openness to new ideas.
This was not something I had planned in advance. The idea developed naturally. Through lectures, discussions and personal conversations, I learned that it is possible to continue at the university in the form of a short term research stay.
When I returned to Slovakia, I knew that if I did not try, I would regret it.
The Acceptance That Changed Everything
In September, I submitted my application. Without certainty, without guarantees, only with the belief that this experience made sense.
In December, I received official acceptance for a short term research stay at Iwate University, with a planned start in April 2026.
At that moment, a summer experience became a real academic opportunity.
At the same time, the practical reality appeared. Administration, deadlines and, most importantly, finances that need to be secured before the stay itself.
Why I Am Asking for Support
My family has always supported me, and I know they would try to help even now. That is exactly why I do not want this opportunity to become a significant financial burden for them.
I work, save money, apply for scholarships, contact institutions and actively search for funding options.
I am doing everything within my possibilities. Still, some of the required costs are simply higher than what one student can realistically manage alone.
This campaign is not a shortcut.
It is one of the final steps that can help bridge the gap between “it was a great opportunity” and “it truly became reality.”
How the Funds Will Be Used
All funds raised through this campaign will be used exclusively for mandatory and essential costs directly related to the realization of the research stay in Japan. These are expenses that must be paid in advance or are inseparable from participation in the program.
Priority: Tuition and mandatory university fees
The highest priority is covering tuition and required university fees, which are a basic condition for enrollment and participation in the research stay. These include tuition for a six month period and a one time admission fee, together amounting to approximately €1,700.
Essential academic living costs (non leisure)
Another group of expenses is directly connected to the academic stay itself, primarily accommodation in a university dormitory and essential living costs such as food and local transportation. These expenses are not related to leisure, but serve solely to ensure participation in the program, and amount to approximately €2,200.
One time administrative and logistical costs
The budget also includes one time administrative and logistical costs that make the stay possible, specifically travel expenses for the route Slovakia – Japan – Slovakia, accommodation related fees, health insurance, and visa related costs. These expenses amount to approximately €1,800.
Total budget and campaign goal
The total estimated budget for the research stay ranges between €5,700 and €6,000.
The target amount of this campaign is €5,000, as I plan to cover part of the costs from my own income and savings.
If the target amount is not reached
If the full target amount is not reached, all collected funds will be used exclusively to cover tuition and mandatory university fees. Even a partial amount therefore has a clear and specific purpose.
If more than the target amount is raised
If more than the target amount is raised, the additional funds will be used only for other compulsory costs related to the stay, particularly accommodation, insurance and administrative fees.
How This Story Can End
The acceptance already exists.
The plan exists.
And every single contribution moves this story closer to the moment when an academic opportunity becomes reality.
Thank you to everyone who chooses to become part of this journey 🤍
